Guide d'achat
How to choose a rocking chair
Pick the room first
The room decides most of the choice. A nursery needs a supportive chair for long feeds. A living room or reading corner needs an upholstered rocking chair you can sit in for hours. A porch needs materials that handle the weather, and often two chairs: The Beacon and The Homestead each come as a pair. For upholstered chairs, start with our reading rockers. If you want to lean back, see our recliner rockers. For the other rooms, read the best nursery rocking chairs and the best outdoor rocking chairs.
Check the size, including the rock
Our single chairs run from 19.7 inches wide (The Posy) to 43.7 inches wide (The Moonbeam). The Tandem loveseat seats two at 63 inches. Seat heights run from 13 inches on The Rowan to 20.5 inches on The Bramble. Lower seats feel cozy. Higher seats are easier to stand up from.
Depth is the number people forget. A rocker needs room to tip back, and a recliner needs more. The Hearthside reaches 65 inches fully reclined. The rocking chair size guide shows how to measure.
Choose the motion
A classic rocker keeps things simple and fits most rooms. A reclining rocker adds a back that tilts: The Sunday has five positions and The Slumber goes from 90 to 180 degrees. Swivel models such as The Scout turn 360 degrees and also rock and recline. Power recliners like The Solace and The Grandview add heat and massage. The Crescent takes a different approach: a curved wood floor rocker, 15 inches tall, for lounging close to the ground. A few recliners are not listed as rockers, so check the motion of each model before you buy.
Comfort and fabric
For a comfortable rocking chair, look at support first and fabric second. High backs and wingbacks, like The Poppy and The Clover, hold your head and shoulders. Cocoon shapes like The Billow and The Honey wrap around you. A footrest or ottoman, on The Hudson or The Truffle for example, lets you put your feet up.
Fabrics range from soft teddy and boucle to corduroy, chenille, velvet, linen, faux leather and microfiber. Outdoor models use rattan, HDPE, metal, bamboo or textilene. A few have removable or washable covers, including The Sunday, The Bramble and The Slumber. For posture tips, see the best rocking chair for back support.
Where to go next
Read how to choose a rocking chair for the full walkthrough, or open the rocking chair comparison page to see motion, footrest, fabric and size for every model in one place. Shipping is free to the contiguous US, and most chairs need only light assembly.
Questions fréquentes
What is the most comfortable type of rocking chair?
It depends on how you sit. A high back or wingback gives the most support for upright sitting, while a cocoon shape or a reclining rocker suits lounging. A footrest or ottoman adds comfort for longer sessions.
What size rocking chair do I need?
Measure the width and depth of your space, then leave room behind the chair for the rock. Our single chairs run from 19.7 to 43.7 inches wide, and recliners need extra length when fully open.
Are your rocking chairs upholstered?
Most of our indoor rockers are upholstered, in fabrics such as teddy, boucle, corduroy, chenille, velvet, linen, faux leather or microfiber. Our outdoor models use rattan, HDPE, metal, bamboo or textilene.
Do the chairs come assembled?
Most chairs need light assembly when they arrive. If you have a question about a specific model, email support@mokyka.com.
How long does shipping take?
Shipping is free to the contiguous US and delivery takes 9 to 21 business days.
